Week #8: 10/20/15 – Springfield Coach Dave Heuberger

This week, Prep Talk Eugene is very excited to have as our guest interview, Springfield Coach Dave Heuberger. Coach Heuberger is in his fourth season as the Millers coach. The defending Midwestern League Champion Millers are 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the Midwestern League.  Coach Heuberger talks with us about the big 44-21 win over Ashland last week and previews the even bigger game at Silke this week against the Crater Comets (7-0, 3-0).

These two teams are nearly identical in their points scored (Springfield 316 or 45.1 average; Crater 311 or 44.4 average) and points given up (Springfield 158 or 22.5 average; Crater 156 or 22.2). In addition, the games between the two common opponents are similar with both Crater and Springfield defeating Eagle Point 49-20 and 31-14, respectively and defeating Ashland 47-19 and 44-21, respectively.

Coach Heuberger also has a surprise for us as he tries his hand at Stump Marvin Trivia and then shares with us his reasoning behind listing his father as an assistant coach on the team roster.

In the first part of our show, we talk about the games this past week for local 1A, 2A and 3A teams. We talk about Central Linn’s 33-0 win over Kennedy and have some post game audio with Coach Dusty Burchfield and fullback Alex Pettner.

Following our interview with Coach Heuberger, we then review, debate, discuss and analyze all the big games for local 4A, 5A and 6A teams. In particular, we focus on Springfield/Ashland, Churchill’s first ever win over Marist, North Eugene’s 61-0 win over Colton (the most points ever scored by the Highlanders!), Sheldon/Thurston and Willamette’s big win over North Medford.
