Most local teams are preparing for the final game of the regular season this week. Some League Championships have become clear (Sky’Em, Midwestern League, Southwest Conference) and there are still some battles going on (TriRiver Conference, Mountain Valley Conference). 4A teams start the Play-In round friday.
This week Prep Talk is Talkin’ Football with Crater Coach John Beck. The Comets flew into Silke Field and left a trail of destruction following their 49-35 win over the Springfield Millers. Crater wins their first ever Midwestern League Title after only their second year dropping down to 5A and joining the MWL. For the fourth year in a row, we now have a different league champion, with Marist (2012), Ashland (2013), Springfield (2014) and now Crater rotating the banner. Parity, you either love it or hate it.
In the first part of our show we review the big games at 1A, 2A and 3A, including Yoncalla’s 77-30 win over Lowell. Congrats to Yoncalla Coach Matt Bragg and the Eagles for the first ever league title at the 1A level and first since 1995! We then analyze the surprising result of Regis’ 35-18 win over Central Linn. The Tri River Conference has a bottleneck with three teams currently tied for first place!
Coach Beck then joins us and reviews the Springfield game, giving his thoughts on the turning point in the game and why his team has been such a strong second half team so far this season. He also lists his top teams in 5A, not including his streaking hot Comets. We then turn our attention to the big game against Churchill with a preview of the Lancers. Coach Beck has a lot of respect for the Churchill coaching staff and the Lancer athletes.
We review the results of the 4A, 5A and 6A games and have some post game audio with North Eugene Coach Rick Raish following Redmond’s 59-26 win over the Highlanders. We ask Coach Raish if the Highlanders will rejoin the Midwestern League next season.
Congrats are also due to Thurston for getting their first win of the season! It’s all right here. ENJOY!
