It’s week #3 and that means the start of league play for some classifications. This week on Talkin’ Football, Prep Talk Eugene has our usual debate and analysis of all the results from last week and the big games coming up this week.
At the 1A level, the Lowell Red Devils are “Red Hot and Lowellin” after a big win over Perrydale. Camas Valley beat Yoncalla 48-0 and the Hornets look to be a top team in 8-man football.
At the 4A level, we talk about the 2-0 start the Cottage Grove Lions are off to, outscoring opponents 122-7. We talk with Coach Gary Roberts who readily acknowledged that the competition takes a jump up this week when the Scappoose Indians come into town for a HUGE game. Coach Roberts shares with us how former Sheldon Coach Marty Johnson and his son, Jordan (who played quarterback at Sheldon and at the University of Montana) came to join his staff at Cottage Grove. Coach Roberts is a former Sheldon assistant who has been at Cottage Grove since 2008. Is it too early to refer to them as Sheldon South? Tune in to our game broadcast this friday and find out!
We also talk 5A football and conclude that the Mid-Willamette Conference has owned the Mid Western League (MWL) this year, going 6-1 and outscoring our local league 297-114. Only Crater got a win for the MWL, a 39-24 victory over South Albany. We talk Churchill Lancers, Marist Spartans (off to a n 0-2 start for the first time since forever) and the Thurston Colts. We have some post game audio following Crescent Valley’s 38-12 win over Springfield with both Coach Scott Sanders and junior Talanoa Hufanga.
We talk 6A football and conclude that Sheldon Coach Lane Johnson was correct in his worry about Sunset quarterback Jason Dumont “Skedaddling” around in the game against the Irish. Marvin and I try to define skedaddle and conclude that it’s hard to define but easy to point out.
It’s all right here. Click on the Soundcloud audio file below to hear this week’s show. You can also download the file for easy listening at your leisure. ENJOY!
