Thurston Coach Justin Starck says “we own this!”

This week on our podcast Talkin’ Football, we review all the results from last week’s big games. This includes Sheldon playing twice (!) in a week due to a rescheduled game as a result of poor air quality, our Game of the Week audio stream at Elmira hosting Cottage Grove and all the other teams in action.

We preview the biggest game of the season thus far, as the Thurston Colts (3-1) host the Churchill Lancers (4-0) on The Farm for an early lead for the Midwestern League title.  We interview Thurston Coach Justin Starck to get a preview of the game, get a peek at the Colts and his take on the Lancers. We also ask Coach Starck who some of his leaders have been on his squad this year and for his top two or three teams in 5A (not including his own Colts).

Coach Starck is starting his 15th season at Thurston and with the retirement of Crater Coach John Beck last season and Ashland’s Charlie Hall taking the head coach position at Southern Oregon University, is the longest tenured coach in the Midwestern League!

We gave Marvin the night off for Stump Marvin Trivia and ask Marcus “When was the last time the Churchill Lancers defeated the Thurston Colts in a regular season football game?” It’s not such any easy answer as the Colts played 6A from 2010- 2015 while Churchill played a 5A schedule. Listen in for the answer.

We have some post game audio with Cottage Grove Coach Gary Roberts following the Lions 41-18 win over Elmira. This week Cottage Grove will host Sweet Home (4-0) who is off to their best start since 2009!
