It’s playoff time! Very excited to announce our guest this week on our podcast Talkin’ Football is Beaverton Coach Bob Boyer.
Coach Boyer is a Beaverton grad (Class of ’85) and has been coaching on staff since 1990. He became the head coach in 2003. In fact his first game as head coach of the Beaverton Beavers was at Sheldon in 2003! His squad returns to Dennis Ludwig Stadium & Marty Johnson Field for a first round playoff game friday night.
Check out our podcast for all the game reviews from last week and previews for this coming week. In the first 14 minutes we debate, discuss and analyze 6A, 5A and 4A teams, including the high scoring Churchill Lancers who are averaging 51.22 points per game. In Midwestern League action, the Lancers are averaging 55.71 points in 7 league games, a new league record. Here are some of the high scoring teams of the Midwestern League of the past:
2008: Thurston 51.0 per game in 5 MWL games
2009: Thurston 51.6 per game in 5 MWL games.
2010: Marist 51.2 per game in 5 MWL games.
2011: Marist 53.57 per game in 7 MWL games.
2017: Thurston 50.85 per game in 7 MWL games.
The interview with Coach Boyer is at the 14:25 mark. He has a nice preview of the game against Sheldon and a shout out for some of the senior leaders both on and off the field for the Beaverton Beavers. He also talks about senior running back Trevor McDonald who fans may recall played at Willamette for two years before transferring to Sheldon and then transferring up to Beaverton. McDonald was not at Sheldon during football season but he caught our eye as a good running back his sophomore and junior years at Willamette. Here are some of his stats from two years with the Wolverines:
2015: Soph season (8 games) 146 carries 825 yds 6 TD’s
2016: Jr season (5 games) 63 carries 353 yds 2 TD’s
