09/09/14: Weekly Radio Show – Silverton Coach John Mannion

09 September 2014

It’s week #2 for the high school football season. Most teams are still playing non league opponents but that does not mean the games are not big games. There are some great match ups this week, including Sheldon at Jesuit, Thurston at Springfield, Silverton at Marist, North Bend at Cottage Grove and Camas Valley at Lowell.

We preview all these games (and more) and review last week’s big games, including the first ever meeting between Marist and Thurston, Springfield’s over time win at Willamette (and more).

We also have Stump Marvin Trivia, with a question related to our interview with Silverton Coach John Mannion. Coach Mannion talks about coaching at Foothill High School in Pleasanton, California (East Bay Area), playing in the same league as the De La Salle Spartans, Silverton senior quarterback Cole Chandler and the coaching and recruiting challenges he experienced as both a Father and Coach of his son, Oregon State quarterback Sean Mannion.

It’s game week! After a long Spring and Summer, it is finally time for some high school football. Join Prep Talk Eugene Co-hosts Chris Park and Patrick Crawley with special guest Lucas Clark (Eugene Register-Guard Prep Sports Reporter) as we preview the season, talk about the teams and the big games this season. Here are some of the questions we discuss:

What is the best opening season game locally? What local team will surprise fans (in a positive way)? What local team will have a rougher go of it this season? Which local team has the best chance to get to the State Championship game (regardless of classification)? What local team has a really brutal schedule? We discuss the 5A Midwestern League with the addition of the Crater Comets and the challenge of only 3 teams making the playoffs from the Midwestern League. Additional topics include the renewal of the Thurston versus Springfield game, the rebuilding of South Eugene, Willamette High moving to 6A and whether Sheldon can take back the Southern Oregon Conference Championship from North Medford.

I put Lucas on the spot with a trivia question also: “What Midwestern League team has the best league recordĀ over the past two years?” Listen in for the answer.

Next week we will have an interview with a Coach to accompany our show.Ā Enjoy!
